The Soccer Tournament (TST) Unveils Men’s and Women’s Groups for 2025 Event

Festival to Feature Pat McAfee’s CONCAFA SC, Hope Solo’s Solo FC, West Ham United, Atlético de Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Club América, AFC Bournemouth and More

Size of Women’s Field Doubles from Eight to Sixteen Teams

Carli Lloyd, Hope Solo, Ali Krieger, Luis Nani, Miguel Layún, Sergio Agüero to play in Cary, N.C. June 4-9

The Soccer Tournament (TST), which features a $1 million, winner-take-all bracket for men and a $1 million, winner-take-all bracket for women, today announced the groups for its 48-team men’s event and 16-team women’s event.

“TST soccer is electrifying,” said TST CEO Jon Mugar. “Our goal is to become the preeminent soccer festival in the world. Judging by the number of returning fans and teams, we are well on our way. We have doubled the size of the women’s field and a record 64 teams will compete in Cary. I can’t wait to see the level of competition this June!” 

The men’s and women’s tournaments will feature teams representing 13 countries and 12 prominent European and North American professional teams. New club additions to this year’s field include English Premier League’s AFC Bournemouth, La Liga’s Atlético de Madrid, Liga MX’s Club América, and English Championship’s Plymouth Argyle. After appearing in TST’s inaugural event in 2023, English Premier League club West Ham United will also return to the men’s field.

Returning clubs from TST 2024 include Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund, La Liga’s Villarreal CF, Serie A’s Cagliari Calcio, and English League One’s Wrexham Red Dragons. 

Three TST celebrity-led teams will also once again compete on the men’s side: Pat McAfee’s The CONCAFA SC, Sergio Agüero’s Seleccion Potrero (previously known as Agüero Team), and Luis Nani’s Nani FC.

Launched as an eight-team tournament in 2024, the women’s field has now doubled in size to 16 teams. The women’s tournament will feature defending champions US Women, who added U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) legend Carli Lloyd to a roster that includes her former teammates Ali Krieger and Heather O’Reilly. This year’s women’s field will also feature Solo FC, organized by former USWNT goalkeeper and World Cup winner Hope Solo, who will play on the team as well.

Returning teams from TST’s 2024 women’s field include entries from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) clubs Angel City FC and NC Courage, and the Wrexham Red Dragons, who will be the only professional club represented in both the men’s and women’s events. NWSL’s KC Current will send their second team, KC Current II.

TST’s men’s bracket splits up its 48 teams into 12 groups of four.  The groupings are as follows:

Group B: Cagliari Calcio, Cardinal Legacy (Stanford alumni), City Soccer FC, Hoosier Army (Indiana alumni)

Group C: Club America, Drip FC, Nani FC, The 610

Group D: Boca Dallas, Dueling for Lincoln FC, LCF Academy, Newtown Pride FC

Group E: Dark Horse NC United, Pumas de Alabama, Reggae Rovers, Say Word FC

Group F: AFC Bournemouth, The CONCAFA SC, Real Athletico, Wrexham Red Dragons

Group G: Brown Ballers FC, Tenfifteen FC, Villarreal CF, West Ham United

For the women’s tournament, the sixteen teams are split into four groups of four. The groups are:

Group A (Women): Angel City 7s, Austin Rise FC, Process FC, US Women

Group B (Women’s): Drunken Monkeys, Kansas City II, Ultrain, Wrexham Red Dragons

Group C (Women’s): Albion SC, Solo FC, Speedy Turtles, Streetball Canada

Group D (Women’s): Boca Dallas, NC Courage, Reunion City Dallas, Bumpy Pitch

The Soccer Tournament will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina from June 4-9. On the men’s side:

  • Group Stage: June 4-5
  • Round of 32: June 6
  • Round of 16 and Quarterfinals: June 7
  • Semifinals: June 8 
  • Final: June 9

The 16-team women’s tournament will begin play on June 5. The official schedule is:

Both the men’s and women’s events will conclude in a winner-take-all championship doubleheader on June 9 on ESPNU and ESPN+, with a total of $2M in prize money awarded.

ESPN+ will carry 27 men’s and women’s matches live, with 20 matches also available on ESPNU. All non-ESPN games will air live on TST’s YouTube channel. For those watching internationally, all 134 matches will be shown on YouTube as well.
