Hope Solo Announces “Solo FC” Entry Into TST 2025 Women’s Event

Solo FC to Face O’Reilly, Krieger, Lloyd, and US Women in Cary, North Carolina June 4-9

CARY, N.C. (Jan 29, 2025) –  The Soccer Tournament (TST), the 7v7 event with a $1 million winner-take-all prize being played in Cary, NC, from June 4-9 today announced that U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) icon Hope Solo will be entering a team in the 16-team women’s event. 

Solo, who won two gold medals and a World Cup with the United States, will return to the field with “Solo FC”. TST will mark the first time Solo has played in a competitive match since 2016. 

“I am incredibly excited not only to enter Solo FC in The Soccer Tournament but also make my comeback to the field at one of the most exciting events in soccer right now,” said Hope Solo. “TST has done some amazing things to grow the game for women and I’m proud to be a part of it. I’m as competitive as ever, and I can’t wait to unveil the team that will win the $1 million grand prize.”

Solo FC’s roster will feature current and former professionals, as well as collegiate athletes. Player announcements for Solo FC will be made at a later date via official team and TST social media accounts.  

Widely regarded as the greatest U.S. women’s goalkeeper of all time, Solo made her national team debut at 18 years old, establishing herself as the first choice goalkeeper a few years later. Earning over 200 caps, Solo played in three World Cups and three Olympics. Solo was the Golden Glove winner at both the 2011 and 2015 World Cups and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2022. At the club level, Solo played in Sweden and France before returning to the U.S. to compete in various women’s soccer leagues, eventually joining the Seattle Reign for the NWSL’s inaugural season. Solo played three seasons for the Reign before retiring in 2016.  

Solo will join a women’s event headlined by 2024 TST champions US Women. This summer, US Women will feature former USWNT stars Heather O’Reilly, Ali Krieger, Carli Lloyd, among others. 

New and other returning teams will be announced over the course of the next few weeks. 

TST will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina from June 4-9. The 48-team men’s field will commence with group play split into 12 groups of four. Thirty-two teams will emerge from the group stage to the knockout rounds, culminating in the $1 million, winner-take-all championship game on June 9. 

TST’s women’s bracket will be expanded from eight to 16 teams competing for an equal $1M, winner-take-all prize. The women’s event will be broken into four groups of four. Two teams will advance from each group to play in the knockout quarterfinals,  culminating in the $1 million winner-take-all championship game on June 9.
