Conner Frankamp said that he felt tired during the entire Round 3 matchup against Challenge ALS and had scored just six points headed into the Elam Ending. 

But, once again, the AfterShocks’ star shined brightest when the Wichita State alumni squad needed him most.

Frankamp took a pass from Tyrus McGee and sank a three-pointer to send the Koch Arena crowd into a frenzy and the AfterShocks on to the Round of 8 in Dayton following a 69-65 comeback win over Challenge ALS.

“It’s fitting that it’s Conner,” said AfterShocks coach Zach Bush. “He’s hungry. People doubt him, and he keeps proving them wrong.”

Both players and coaches alike were quick to credit the defense, which held Challenge ALS scoreless over its final five possessions during the Elam Ending.

“We know what our focus is, and that’s to get as many stops as possible,” said Frankamp. “Taking care of the ball is extremely important and getting as many stops as you can.”

Bush agreed with his star guard.

“Unbelievable heart, effort…that’s what this program has been built on,” said Bush. “They find a way.”

Markis McDuffie’s 15 points led the way for the Wichita State alumni squad, which scored the final six points during the Elam Ending.

Frankamp, one of the heroes in Round 2’s win over the Omaha Blue Crew, summed it up.

“It was extremely exciting,” said the former Wichita State guard. “It was super loud in there. I was just super excited.”
