BOSTON (May 22, 2024) – The Soccer Tournament (TST), which features $1 million, winner-take-all tournaments for men and women on the ESPN networks, today announced that former United States women’s national team stars Mia Hamm and Carli Lloyd will join the coaching staff for Heather O’Reilly’s US Women. Hamm and Lloyd will serve as assistants under head coach Carla Overbeck, a former UNC and North Carolina Courage star who played for the US national team for 12 years from 1998-2000.
“There are not many moments where we have former national team players and staff all together, so being a part of this amazing squad was something I have been really looking forward to,” said Carli Lloyd. “Heather has assembled a great team and has put a lot of work into pushing for a women’s TST to happen. Although I would have loved to play this summer with a lot of my former teammates, I’ll be cheering and coaching from the sidelines with all the other legendary staff!”

Other members of the US Women staff include Michelle Akers, Wendy Palladino, Bill Palladino, Kacey White, Lisa Pittaro, Jen Mead, and Kendall Fletcher White.
“We put together a pretty epic coaching staff,” said team captain Heather O’Reilly. “They were some of the best footballers on the planet spanning over three decades of USWNT domination. If I can’t win when Michelle Akers, Mia Hamm, and Carli Lloyd are encouraging me, I don’t deserve to split the million.”
This year’s TST features an eight-team women’s event for a $1 million prize, in addition to the 48-team men’s event. The field is split into two groups of four. The US Women’s group features the Wrexham Red Dragons, NWSL club Angel City FC, and Streetball FC Canada.
