Krieger will link up with former USWNT teammate Heather O’Reilly on US Women

BOSTON, Mass. (April 5, 2024) – The Soccer Tournament (TST), the 7v7 event with a $1 million winner-take-all prize being played in Cary, NC from June 5-10 today announced that former U.S. Women’s National Team and NWSL star Ali Krieger will compete in the event.

“I told [Heather O’Reilly] that I’m only signing up if we win,” Ali Krieger said on ESPN’s Fútbol Americas Thursday evening. “I’m very happy to be playing in front of the fans, supporters, and some family members again. It should be really fun!”
“Ali Krieger is one of the best defenders to ever play for the USWNT,” US Women captain and midfielder Heather O’Reilly said.” Fresh off the field with Gotham FC last season and another championship under her belt, Ali is a proven winner. She’s a huge addition and I can’t wait to lace them up with her again!”

Krieger’s professional career spanned 18 seasons, including five in Germany and ten in the NWSL. The 39-year-old retired at the end of the 2023 season after helping Gotham FC win their first NWSL championship.
Kreiger now works as an analyst for ESPN. TST recently announced that ESPN had acquired the media rights for the tournament, including select women’s group stage games, the semifinals and championship.
In addition to US Women, teams in the women’s bracket that have been unveiled include the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage, USL Super League’s Tampa Bay Sun FC, SoccerHead FC, and Canada Streetball FC.

The eight competing women’s teams will be split into two groups of four, with group play commencing June 7-8. Two teams will advance from each group to the semifinals on June 9. The inaugural women’s bracket will conclude with a $1 million winner-take-all championship game on June 10.
